While it may look slick and functional for B2B events, the iPad wouldn't hold up in B2C, outdoor, etc. events. You must consider ruggedness (yes, staffers drops these devices more than you care to guess!), outdoor viewability and sunlight, ability to enter in data accurate through touchscreen keys, battery life and changeability. Also, if you are creating a custom application for events, it quite frankly doesn't matter which type of hardware you use to render to application, as long as the processing power, connectivity, and resolution variables are working correctly.

So my take? No, it won't really hold up for events. It's more of a consumer toy, not a proven/durable data capture device for running event technology.
