Sam,

#20 is the most important in IMHO. So to reiterate what a lot of smart people say about all of these social media tools, "it's about the people, not about the technology."

I've met so many cool people whose blogs I read or even do business with.

So what's the ROI of Twitter? Was it a waste of time?, Read 1-20 again. Like a lot of things, it is what you make of it.

One sentence dialogues as you rightfully point out can lead to interesting (group) conversations. If you calculate the invested time vs. Discovered new contacts & worthwile dialogue what would the formula look like?
Did you check your 'Klout' score lately? ( can be tracked on Hootsuite). Both could be interesting metrics to track in your Twitter quest for value & relevance.
